The following day I went to see my own GP, Doctor Janikiewicz. I told him of my chest problem, although I was economical with the truth as to how arduous the course had really been, and the fact that I had spat up blood. In all fairness, I made the course sound like a walk in the park. He prescribed some antibiotics and told me to take things easy.

Sunday night we or rather those of us who were left reported to the Parachute Regiment depot. Clarkey told me, and I believed him, that we would not do anything that much harder than what we had already done, but some of the other lads who had done part or completed P Company, said he was talking crap and that I would see the difference in the morning. A bit later on that night some of the P Company instructors came into the block to give us the once over. Their attitude seemed very different from that of the ‘pre Para’ staff. They made a few veiled threats as to what we were in for. This also led me to believe that Clarkey was bullshitting me after all.
